Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
What is the Mental Health Alliance for Athletes (MHAA)?
We’re a Colorado-based nonprofit dedicated to connecting athletes and sports officials with the mental health and brain injury resources they need. Think of us as a bridge between the athletic community and the professionals who can support their well-being.
Who started MHAA and why?
MHAA was founded by Jordan Meadows, a former athlete and coach who personally experienced multiple concussions. After struggling to find the right care, he realized there needed to be one central place where athletes could turn for help, education, and resources. That’s how MHAA was born.
Am I considered an athlete?
Absolutely! If you’re someone who moves your body regularly and pushes yourself—yes, you’re an athlete. Whether you play a team sport, train solo, run, dance, hike, lift, climb, or just stay active in your own way, you belong here. If you’re out there putting in the effort, you’re an athlete in our book.
What kind of services do you offer?
Here’s what you can expect from us:
- A care provider directory featuring mental health and holistic professionals.
- Help scheduling appointments or connecting with the right care providers.
- Educational materials about mental health and traumatic brain injuries (TBIs).
- Opportunities for schools, gyms, or sports groups to bring us in for speaking engagements.
- Financial assistance for those who need help covering the cost of care.
Is MHAA a medical provider?
No—we’re not doctors or licensed providers ourselves. Our role is to connect you with trusted professionals who can give you the care you need. Our staff and volunteers don't offer any kind of medical advice.
How do I get involved?
There are lots of ways:
- Join as a Care Provider (we have a free option and an upgraded “Wellness Champion” membership).
- Become a Community Partner, like a local business willing to share flyers or info.
- Sponsor MHAA to help us expand our programs and outreach.
- Or simply donate—every dollar helps athletes get the care they deserve.
What Exactly Is a Community Partner?
A Community Partner is any local business, nonprofit, school, government agency, athletic facility, gym, sports organization, or community-based program that wants to support the Mental Health Alliance for Athletes’ mission — at no cost (donations are always appreciated but never required).
Community Partners help us increase awareness by simply displaying an MHAA 8×10 flyer, keeping rack cards available for athletes and families, and placing a window cling with a QR code at their storefront. We provide all materials at no charge.
While this level does not receive patient referrals, Community Partners gain access to a variety of benefits, including:
- Listing on the MHAA Community Partners webpage
- Eligibility for a free information booth at MHAA events
- Ability to host or request educational workshops or speaking events
- Access to promote their own community events on the public MHAA calendar (with additional MHAA social media promotion)
- Digital and print educational materials
- Introductions to care providers and other partners in our network
- Monthly MHAA e-newsletters
- One free advertisement in the newsletter each year
- In short, a Community Partner is a valued member of our outreach network — helping us spread awareness, support athletes, and strengthen the mental-health ecosystem across Colorado and beyond.
Are donations or memberships tax-deductible?
Yes! We’re a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit, which means your donations or membership dues may be tax-deductible. (Of course, it’s always a good idea to double-check with a tax professional.)
How can I get in touch?
Super easy—you can call or text us at (720) 914-0164, email info@mentalhealthallianceforathletes.org, or schedule a meeting through our website.
What should I do if I’m in a crisis?

How does MHAA connect with the community?
We partner with local businesses, gyms, wellness centers, and organizations that care about athletes. We also share stories, interviews, and event highlights through our media page and YouTube channel.
